Protein resources are growing in importance, which led to the formation of UniProt, adding and integrating the data found in Swiss Prot / TrEMBL, EMBL protein resource, references / citations, PDB and PIR references. There is a separate page of protein links for you to follow a path through the databases below. Be forewarned that proteomics is very complex, and the structure, properties, motif, and conserved domains can be challenging to navigate. For assignment three you'll chart your travels through protein databases, as well as try your hand at structure modeling.
UniProt - the world's premier protein resource site, integrating protein sequences and databases from GenBank, Swiss-Prot, and PIR
Swiss-Prot - was the most comprehensive protein database, including sequences, physical properties, links to structure files
EMBL - European Molecular Biology Laboratory and EMBL and EMBL nucleotide database
PDB - the Protein Data Bank is the archive for over 30,000 structures
PIR - the Protein Information Resource
Pfam - a database of sequences and alignments for determining similarity to known protein families.
