Introduction to Bioinformatics - COIN81
COIN 81 Week One
In the first week, we'll go over the course, introduce and tour the bioinformatics websites, and show some of the tools that we'll use - BLAST, Biology Workbench (and Next Generation Biology Workbench NGBW) Cn3D, etc. We'll also talk about the scenario-based curriculum used in avian influenza. We'll start our course with the multi week Webquest of bioinformatics sites, spending as much time as possible in the NCBI portal. We'll also talk about how to find a theme for your research, such as a gene, protein, disease, or even a technology such as microarrays, or a topic in molecular biology, such as our recent discovery how the transcriptome can affect the onset of disease.

WebQuest - a world tour of bioinformatics websites. This 'tour' will take about a week to 10 days to complete. take your time, and take notes of your journey, which you'll turn into a story for 'assignment one'.
