Concept 1 - Why are we using ETUDES?
Through trial and error it was discovered that students have more difficulty navigating ETUDES Classic than navigating a website. For that reason alone, we made all the class material available through the course website at: http://fgamedia.org/faculty/rdcormia/COIN74A/ . You have access to all the lessons, all the homework, and a host of supporting tutorials from this site. It is possible to navigate this website through ETUDES, but that would be confusing. We use ETUDES to list the dates for assignment submission, for your to post your assignment links, and for me to post your grades. In addition, you will log into ETUDES, and then the forums, to post questions for your classmates.
Concept 2 - How do I submit assignments?
It's really quite simple, especially after you've done one or two. Log into ETUDES using your user name and password combination. Choose the COIN 74A tab and then click on the Tasks, Tests and Surveys link, and then choose the appropriate assignment. For almost all assignments, with the notable exception of assignment one, you will enter a URL as your assignment. That will most likely be the address of your HW.htm file on the krypton server. When you enter the link, I will see it and be able to navigate to your work for that week. If you paste your link, I will most likely ask you to resubmit the assignment.
Concept 3 - What if I make an error submitting an assignment?
Everyone makes one or two submission errors during the quarter. You might submit a blank page for the first assignment, or you submit a link to a page that doesn't exist, or the page becomes corrupted, or accidentally deleted. I'll simply ask you to resubmit the assignment. To help me keep track of this process, I score an assignment requiring resubmission with 1 point. It's my internal mnemonic to let me know that a resubmission has been asked for. In almost all cases, you may resubmit an assignment for full credit (unless of course you are more than one week late).
Concept 4 - Resubmitting for more points
I often will look at an assignment that is less than complete and ask you to resubmit. Usually it's because you missed something, or perhaps I missed something, and I want you to have every opportunity to show your proficiency on any given assignment. This isn't an 'automatic' process; meaning that I reserve the right to ask for a resubmission.
Concept 5 - Missing assignments
From time to time a student will miss an assignment, forget an assignment, or not be able to do a particular assignment (if it's new and tricky) during the normal flow of the class. If you send me an ETUDES message, or an email message, explaining what your concerns are, we can almost always work out a schedule to submit it later. However, all work must be completed by the final date of the class - no incomplete grades can be granted for this class.
